Politics, Religion and Culture in 1680s Britain and Ireland

This conference was held in late July, 2009 in Bangor, and considered all aspects of the period in Britain and Ireland between the start of the exclusion crisis in 1679, and the coronation of William and Mary in 1689. It included themes which were suggested by the events of these years, but were not limited to them – for example, developments in political and constitutional theory, notions of toleration and anti-popery, literary developments after the death of Milton and Marvell, Anglo-Celtic and Brito-Dutch relations, court culture, constructions of gender, the nature of print propaganda.
