The Marian Colloquium

As one venture within the ‘Women and the Sacred’ strand, the Marian Colloquium seeks to gather scholars from all disciplines working on female Marian devotion.  In its initial stages, this project asks two related questions. First, how and for what reasons did women’s devotion to the Virgin change during their lifetime? Second, how did these changes interact with another variable, the space - both sacred and secular – in which women carried out their devotional practices? One facet of this project will be an investigation into the way in which women used the Lady Chapel, a feature of many medieval parish churches. Enquiries from interested parties and ideas for further facets to this project should be made to Dr Sue Niebrzydowski, School of English, Bangor University, s.niebrzydowski@bangor.ac.uk.
